What Happens If Trump Wins?
We cry — at least I will. I will cry, though, not immediately but days after the shock has worn off.
There is very little I can add to what has already been said by thousands of others and me over the last four years. If our fellow citizens prove to have such short memories of the worst president our nation ever knew, and just four years later, after a first-ever attempt to seize power through an insurrection on January 6th, 2021, then shame on them — pity for us.
Pity for the world.
Donald Trump is not a joke. His hatred, ignorance, and talent for making stupid racists feel empowered are contagious viruses that affect millions of our fellow citizens — the cult. If Trump wins tonight and becomes the 47th president of the United States, then the world is doomed. It won’t be doomed like bombs will start flying tomorrow, but it will be doomed in a much shorter long term. The climate tragedy will accelerate. Dictators like Putin will have free reign to kill and not be held accountable. Our allies will be abandoned, and the world will turn away from uniting to solve problems and turn inward in a battle of survival of the fittest.
If Trump proves victorious tonight, I will be ready if a call goes out that volunteers are needed to fight for our country. I won’t sit idly by and let our nation go down the path of Germany in the 1930s.
