If you have never seen Polar Express, I recommend you watch it. It is my son’s favorite. The ringing of the bell moment at the very end of the movie is the gift I await each time. Regardless of how many times I have seen it (30), I get just as exhilarated by that ringing bell.

Spoiler alert! The hero of the movie does not believe in Santa. He takes the Polar Express to the North Pole and is awarded by Santa the first gift of Christmas. The next day under his tree is a bell that came off of the reindeer’s harness. The boy and his little sister hear the beautiful ringing of the bell. His parents, who no longer believe in Santa, can’t hear it.

The boy, who is narrating, tells us how over the years his friends and even his little sister stopped hearing the bell. He, though, never stopped hearing it — meaning he never stopped believing in Santa. I love this so much!

Of course, being the hyper-politicized person I am, I immediately think of the Trumpists, conspiracy-theorists loons, and QAnon believers. suddenly When do they suddenly lose touch with reality and begin to believe in that nonsense?

The past holds the answers to today’s problems. “Be curious, not judgmental,” at least until you have all the facts. Think and stop watching cable news.
