‘We Cried From Joy — Hail the Wagner Warriors!’

Many Russians are comparing Bakhmut’s ‘liberation’ with the greatest victories of World War II

The “liberation” of Bakhmut, which is still seeing intense fighting only now the Russians are in the center of the ruins and the Ukrainians are working to encircle them, has created glee-filled hysteria bordering on euphoria.

The message in the image above is from one of my wife’s “Mom’s Chat” from St. Petersburg. It used to be a helpful group chat for new moms that then turned into a chat for families dealing with COVID. Since the invasion of Ukraine, it became a place for people to discuss the war. The anti-war people left a long time ago or like my wife, are quiet simply because they are so outnumbered.

Many of the women have lost husbands already. Many of the husbands are still in Ukraine fighting. Here is a translation of the nearly hysterical message:

Nastya (a female name and short for Anastasia), The girls and I were screaming and crying for joy. All of us felt, and now understand what our grandmothers felt. The delight and joy that comes from each victory over the fascists. Hail to the Wagner warriors. They are getting revenge for our boys.
