In the classic novel The Lord of the Flies, one of the main protagonists Simon has a vision in which the Lord of the Flies speaks to him. The above-mentioned exchange highlights their conversation.
Simon’s character, the embodiment of good in society, is worried that his fellow classmates are slipping into darkness and so upon making his discovery during his vision feels inspired to share it with them.
Upon returning to the boys in camp, he shares with them his new insight. The beast, he tells them, is inside of each of them. It sits and waits to be acted upon. If the evil is not fed stimuli, it never manifests itself.
