Too Many Young People Voted in the Midterms

Republicans know how to win them over: raise the voting age, restrict them from voting

The Zoomers, Generation Z, came out in relative droves in November, and thanks to their increased participation, a bridgehead was established to hold back the virus of MAGA-ism.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Gen Z’ers. I am very grateful that you were engaged enough to stop Tiktoking, Instagramming, and whatever it is you guys do 24/7 staring at your phones. Zoomers are always — always — engaging their phones.

About 27% of voters between the ages of 18–29 cast a ballot in the midterm election this year, according to an early estimate from the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement at Tufts University, also known as CIRCLE (Turnout Among Young Voters).

This was the highest recorded level of engagement for young people in three decades. This means that things like “gender,” as much as we don’t seem to get this odd battle over wanting to deny nature and be something, anything else than the gender assigned to us by fate, has become a big ticket item for 2024.

Maybe I am being unfair to the Zoomers by expecting that all of them are gender-obsessed but, well, it sure does seem that way. Given…
