Too Few Men Left in Russia, Kids Being ‘Permitted’ to Work
A bleaker present and a less inspiring future could only be inflicted upon Russia by its worst enemy
I take no joy in writing this article. Gloating is not called for at this moment. Vladimir Putin’s decision to invade his neighbor has proven such a colossally stupid one that estimates between 70,000 and 100,000 Russian men are now dead.
Another 300,000 or so are waiting to die on the front in Ukraine and an additional 300,000 are living abroad to avoid going off to Ukraine to die. This means that roughly 700,000 men of prime working age have vacated their position in the Russian economy since February 24th — in nine months.
Because of this, let’s call it the biggest miscalculation of the 21st century, Russia is experiencing a severe labor shortage due to the loss of so many men.
Representatives from the ruling United Russia party, of which President Vladimir Putin is the de facto leader, on Wednesday proposed a series of changes to the state labor laws, paving the way for those 14 and older to join the workforce without having to obtain permission from social service agencies.
