The Evolution of Putin and Russia’s Slide into ‘Russism’
What Putin got right and what he got wrong when he invaded Ukraine
In a 1995 interview, the first president of Chechnya, and a man I am not ready to praise or condemn for his past efforts in his independence for his homeland of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, Dzhokar Dudayev prophetically predicted Russia’s inevitable slip into barbarity and genocide.
“The peoples of the former Soviet Union, and especially the people of Russia are sick with ‘Russism.’ It is a very severe and chronic illness. Russism is worse than fascism, Nazism, and racism, and worse than all misanthropic ideologies. And this horrible illness can only be cured by the most difficult ordeals. The only nation that doesn’t believe in anything, that is completely void of spirituality, and is immoral with a very low level of human development without hope and for a long time to come, is the Russian people (Russians Sick with Russism).
Resist the urge here to let a politically correct filter blur his words. In the interview, the link is above, Dudayev speaks calmly and intelligently without hate. He is a man who is angry with hatred for when this interview was given, Russia was in the process of brutally attacking Chechnya which resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of non-combatants.
