I know this is a boring topic but please bear with me.

Gun violence is the leading cause of death for America’s children between the ages of 1 and 18. It used to be accidents but now it’s guns. What does this say about our society? Sadly a lot and even sadder, it tells people it’s time to stop listening.

I have noticed that when I write about gun violence in our country, many Americans, even liberals, and progressives, let emotions guide their opinions. Once the topic is about guns and the need to do something, especially at the Constitutional level, negative reactions abound from both sides of the political spectrum.

“Yes, it’s bad, but don’t mess with the Constitution.”

What is it about this ancient document, written when the fastest musket loader could only get off one shot every 20 seconds, that prevents Americans from considering a small “adjustment?” I am never suggesting a full repeal because that is impossible in our country but just a small, realignment with goddamn reality. It won’t break us. It might save someone. It might save a child.

The past holds the answers to today’s problems. “Be curious, not judgmental,” at least until you have all the facts. Think and stop watching cable news.
