Russia’s Cowardly Army

Big, burly, tough guys hide out in hospitals filled with women and children

It’s such a priceless photo. If the camera could pan out to the hallway, though, we would see the big, brave warriors of the Russian army lounging about on couches and chairs and sprawled across the floor. So stricken they are by fear, they now hide out in hospitals. The message is clear, “Bomb us, and you kill these people, too.”

It has become a common practice of late to put Ukrainian non-combatants in harm’s way purposely. The Russian military is even returning evacuated Ukrainians who have been living in Russia for the past year to the cities and villages that are on the path of the attacking Ukrainian army.

But such behavior doesn’t seem like that of Russia’s great and honorable army. In a society where respect for “thy” neighbor drives most relations, if Russia is housing its warriors with the victims of this war, which puts them directly in harm’s way, there must be a good reason for it.
