Russia Is Our Enemy
I was hesitant to call the state of Russia our enemy. I hoped that this genocidal criminality was just Putin and the vomitous sycophants that surround him. My certainty was that the lies and hate presented to the world by Russia’s state-controlled media were just, you know, part of the strategy to provide cover for Putin’s earth-shaking mistake.
I hoped that most Russians would be against the crimes. Sadly, they aren’t.
As the war drags on, and the reality of it becomes more normal and less a topic of discussion expressed by shock and dismay, Russians seem to be digging into the suicide mission.
It’s like the whole country has ended up in the jungle of Guyana at Jonestown and cut off from the world, the citizens are forming in lines to wait patiently for their Dixie cup of Kool-Aid.
I was watching random interviews being done on the streets of Russian citizens. Of the more than 20 people asked whether or not they would go to war in a second mobilization, most responded they would. A few expressed disappointment they hadn’t gone in the first mobilization. They all wanted to end Ukrainian fascism threatening the Russian nation. Quite a few expressed a desire to go off and “kill Americans.”
