From hosting the Olympics in 2014 to the World Cup in 2018 to daily firing missiles at civilians in at a neighboring country in 2022, the land of Tchaikovsky, Tolstoy, and Dostoevsky has been officially declared a sponsor of state terrorism.

My how when the mighty fall, it is certainly with a huge thud.

The European Parliament on Wednesday designated Russia a state sponsor of terrorism, arguing that its military strikes on Ukrainian civilian targets such as energy infrastructure, hospitals, schools, and shelters violated international law (Russia a State Sponsor of Terrorism).

The move is a purely symbolic one but it echoes loud and clear. Nations with a conscience are declaring that Russia’s murderous actions run against humanity. From its perch as one of the 20 most influential nations in the world, Russia has been forced to descend into the stink of ignominy.

Let us all raise our glasses to this development. Let us all offer up hearty belly laughs in the faces of anyone who dares think that Russia’s actions are anything less than criminal; anything less than genocide.
