Running Short of Fuel for Domestic Market, Kremlin Bans Diesel Exports

Shouldn’t this be the opportunity we have been looking for to suffer some short-term pain and break our dirty energy habit?

It’s not a pretty sight by any means. The steel arm relentlessly thrusts up and down like a piston, extracting the earth’s nectar. In theory, it seems somewhat wholesome, right? So many things we extract from the earth are good for us, but unfortunately, crude oil is not one of them.

Coming in all forms, waxy and sticky, green like a health drink you would buy at the gym, and even clear as can be found in West Texas, the refining and burning oil as fuel is the single greatest cause of climate change. And yet, regardless of how civilized we purport to be, we do very little to stop this catastrophe.

Russia, however, has given us another gift in disguise. The Kremlin has temporarily banned diesel exports to relieve the pressures of major shortages on the domestic market. As a result, world diesel prices have skyrocketed. This is yet more proof why building an energy strategy around dirty energy from Moscow is a very flawed one. Most countries in Europe, however, get it.
