Space cadet Putin blames the West and prepares Russia for a new Soviet Union

Vlad the Conquered, or maybe, Vlad the Space Cadet would be more appropriate. The puffy-faced, Lilliputian from Baskov Pereulok in St. Petersburg, an unimpressive former street urchin chosen to join the KGB at a very young age — they recognized his rat-like features even back then — has once again wowed the world with a new addition to Vlad’s bedtime stories: A new concept of Russia’s foreign policy.

Point one was a nice shout-out to the West: “Russia does not consider itself the enemy of the West, is not isolating itself, and has no hostile intentions.”

Nice. A very kind gesture that seems to be some sort of messaging targeted as much for international consumption as domestic. With that sentence, Putin can tell the Russian people that “it’s not me, guys. It’s them.” What he seems to be saying to the West is that “guys, let’s not end the earth over a backwater country like Ukraine. Re-think your actions before it’s too late.”

Point two pokes a little hole in the first point letting out some air from the puffed-up good intentions.
