I wrote a comment last week to your article where you praised AOC for being such a "warrior" for taking on the clearly insane dynamic duo of Cruz and Hawley. As a progressive man, who has been putting forth progressive ideas--and actually implementing them into life--for over 30 years, I love all that AOC stands for--EXCEPT--the time she wastes Twittering. I would like to tell a small story about a bullfight I went to in 2003 to try to convey my feelings about her Twittering.
In Barcelona. I was sitting next to a retired matador. We watched a young toreador thoroughly beating a middle-aged bull. After having inflicted some wounds on him, thus weakening the bull, the young man proceeded to mock the bull; causing it to trip and grind its nose into the ground and just otherwise look not so graceful. The crowd was loving it.
The old man, whose finger tips had been whittled down from years of battling the bulls with their razor sharp horns (nowadays the horns are covered with cork), stood alone in the cheering stadium of 20,000 and began whistling--which is like booing--and swinging his yellow bandana over his head. The man was demanding the bull be redeemed and sent off to live his life out in peace in a pasture.
The cardinal rule had been broken--which seems odd when you realize the battle is one to the death--respect your foe, don't mock or agitate just for the sake of scoring cheap points with the weak-willed crowd. The man was yelling something in Catalans--the local language--and soon the entire stadium joined in demanding the freeing of the bull. The young toreador was reprimanded publicly--if not even disgraced.
And herein lies my objection to AOC's Twittering; constant calling attention to herself. Each Tweet she lets fire off telling us the woes of life--I too was assaulted sexually at age 3 by a neighbor so we all have these very horrific scars; or, how vulnerable she is; or, how, as a woman, she is being so prejudiced against--all things I agree and that are the sick reality of our world--she empowers THEM. AOC makes herself the perfect fundraiser for the right. I DISAGREE WITH THOSE WINGNUTS AS MUCH AS HER! But, this is a very complicated war that requires we all come together to win. Creating the perfect villain for them is simply too easy and too destructive to going forward. WE HAVE TOO MUCH TO DO.
And finally, it is so wrong to say WE DISAGREE WITH AOC just because we don't think her incessant TWITTERING is effective at taking back out country?
But, why has disagreement, which used to be summed up with, "well, that's your opinion," now translated as "you hate me so I must put my fingers in my ears and ignore you." And, yes, cancel. It is a cop out to call progressive men who disagrees with AOC "typical men hating on women." The two people I feel would have been the best presidents in our history could have been HRC and Senator Warren--aren't they women?
I am not a "leftist." But a progressive and I like and respect AOC...but I cringe every time she Tweets and it really makes me doubt her commitment to making ALL of America better.
