I am the official marrying man. I briefly date and then marry. My marriage experience in Russia has provided me with tremendous insight into the Russian mind.

One of my wives was a college sweetheart and an American. The next two were Russians. My current wife is Russian. This is why when I write about Russia, I know what I am talking about. I have lived in Russia with all of my wives, including my American one. She hated it and left. That is partly why we got divorced. That was nearly 30 years ago.

In love with everything Russian and newly single, I started to date. I set out to explore the Russian psyche from the inside. With each date, affair, and relationship, I learned more and more about how Russians think. With each failed relationship, I learned better to predict how they would think.

Then, the marriages began. In 2003, I married my first Russian woman. We are still friends to this day. She taught me a ton. I am thankful she entered my life and just as thankful we are not married today. No judgment is being passed and no details of our break up will be distastefully shared. It was and then it wasn’t.

The past holds the answers to today’s problems. “Be curious, not judgmental,” at least until you have all the facts. Think and stop watching cable news.
