Manchin Becomes Secret Weapon in Luring Republicans Our Way
Don’t get me wrong, neither do I like nor do I trust Joe Manchin. But if there is an opportunity to ring every last drop of “good old boyism” out of him, then I say go for it.
The other day, Senator Manchin (D-W.Va.) was being interviewed by Fox News Harris Faulkner, who hosts The Faulkner Focus. Ms. Faulkner was asking some pretty good questions about the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) that truthfully I would say most of the interview was a benefit to her viewers.
Most of the questions were about the substance of the bill even if the questions were loaded to assume that the bill was not as good as many were making it out to be. The assumption seemed to be that Democrats had the bill filled with typical liberal mines: higher taxes for everyone; big government; no reduction of inflation.
Joe Manchin, seemingly relishing that he was in the spotlight not just for being a spoiler but also now a doer, was doing an excellent job of talking about the merits of the bill. I enjoyed watching him hold his own and quite often speak over the intelligent and well-rehearsed Faulkner.
The whole affair was a smart display of a journalist pushing a politician. It was…
