‘Make America Poor and Second Rate’ Strikes Again
The discovery of fire marked a significant milestone in human evolution. Could you imagine if Republicans had been around back then?
It was around 1.4 million years ago that humans first began to control fire. This does not mean they were tailgating out on the plains of Africa, or having grunt-a-longs around blazing bonfires. It does mean that our ancestors appreciated the warming effects of the fires they stumbled upon after lightning strikes, and in some cases, even captured those flames to heat caves, and by chance, roast some meat. The practice of regularly cooking and making fires on purpose didn’t come about for another 600,000 years.
While humans were doing a lot of things with fire over those 600,000 years, scientists believe that they weren’t building and maintaining fires over those many years because the human brain was still not capable of conceptualizing the idea of fire. Why am I going on so much about fire? Simple. If Republicans or conservatives existed 1.4 million years ago, they would have been running around like possessed lunatics, stomping out every fire upon which they came.
