Rudolf, Karen, Donnie, Villages, Silent Nights and More: Some Christmas Provoked Thoughts

Christmas, and the end of year holiday season in general, is a time of year that can very easily unite us with smaller versions of our past selves. It might be a song, a smell, a particular decoration or just the month of December itself that aligns us with the thoughts and feelings from any year in our lives.

Just right now, I can call on the excitement felt every year in “real-early December,” when school was still in session, and would be for a couple more weeks, but was nevertheless on a downward sled ride, heading straight for the magic of December 24th and 25th.

As an adult, my excitement is now less focused on the expectation of gifts but more on the fun of buying gifts for others; creating stories around elves and other Christmas-y things for my son and most importantly for all of the things I will make for parties and celebrations that commence with my annual Malbec Party around the 18th or so and end with New Year’s Day.
