Cliff “Cliffy” Clavin, our favorite mailman from the classic show Cheers, entertained us every Thursday with his “little known facts.”

It’s a little-known fact that the tan became popular in what is known as the Bronze Age (Welcome to Cheers).

Cliff, as sometimes boring and unspectacular as was, was always just a kind-of-smart guy who was certain he was a lot smarter thanks to the “facts” that no one had any way of proving — or disproving. So, his fellow drinkers and the workers at Cheers would wait for “Mr. Clavin” to finish and then just go on about their evening as if no words had ever been uttered.

It’s a little-known fact that the smartest animal is a pig. Scientists say if pigs had thumbs and a language, they could be trained to do simple manual labor. They give you 20–30 years of loyal service and then at their retirement dinner you can eat them (Welcome to Cheers).

It’s now a little-known fact that everything we know to be true is actually not true according to the army of gullible, not-so-smart, and, intellectually-lazy rightwingers. A whole army of Americans have turned into Cliff Clavins but only they are much less interesting and a lot more dangerous.

The past holds the answers to today’s problems. “Be curious, not judgmental,” at least until you have all the facts. Think and stop watching cable news.
