If You Are Sick of China Raise Your Hand
Thin-skinned, secretive, prone to lying, and authoritarian, Beijing’s rule under Xi is a goddamn mess
Another balloon has gone off the ranch and is leisurely drifting over Latin America. It turns out the Trump administration hid from us that China let three balloons float across the U.S. during his presidency.
The Trump administration, however, might have been dealing with the other major-league Chinese screw-up. You may have heard of it, COVID-19. I don’t want to let anyone try to whitewash the reality of COVID but it was China’s fault. I won’t go so far as to say that China created the epidemic on purpose — that’s conspiratorial lunacy.
COVID did, however, break out of China, Wuhan to be exact, and because of China’s perverse obsession with secrecy, at least a month was lost when the world could have been taking preventive measures — assuming that the orange idiot would have taken anything seriously. Even after admitting the existence of the pandemic, China still played games with the information about how the virus infected people.
China, like then and now with these errant balloons, so lacks confidence in itself as a leading nation in the world that it simply can’t admit the possibility that sometimes “shit happens.” Sometimes…
