Hi Maude, I also had a similar class in 10th grade called Comparative Ideologies and I loved it! Yes, students today are not prepared for life. They are boxed up in their emojis and afraid of anything different while at the same time thinking they are so open to all that is different — as if gender identity is the only way people can be truly different nowadays. As I think I wrote here without going back and looking at it — or I may have edited this point — kids are spending a lot of time on what I call the “make me feel good” classes. Those things are important, like anti-bullying, but when we have a president that does only that, it seems we are somehow missing the point on those classes. And yet, the most basic concept in a democracy is the right to vote and have it count and how many people are out there protesting now because Trump did his usual — lie? And Fox did their usual and back him up. It’s so sad. Your passion is great! ))

The past holds the answers to today’s problems. “Be curious, not judgmental,” at least until you have all the facts. Think and stop watching cable news.
