So Why Is the GOP Against the Inflation Recovery Act Anyway?

Fearing their base could start living better, they unite to obstruct

The Inflation Recovery Act (IRA) has cleared another hurdle. The Senate parliamentarian has determined that except for a few small points here and there, all passes muster for Democrats to use reconciliation to make IRA law in our land.

None of this pleases the white men and women of the Republican Party. An angry brood, they are twisting themselves into pretzels trying to find weak spots in the 755-pages of legislation.

So far, despite their more nefarious efforts, none of those really genius slogans like “right to work state,” or, “death squad” have presented themselves to the contortionists.

None of that stopped the old, racist, julep-guzzling southerner we all love to hate, Mitch McConnell from emoting.

“Democrats are misreading the American people’s outrage as a mandate for yet another — yet another — reckless taxing and spending spree,” said Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the minority leader.

He condemned a “tidal wave of Washington meddling” that he said would result from the prescription drug plan, which he said would take “a buzz saw to the research and development behind new, lifesaving…
