Everything I Feared About a Trump Presidency Came True

And next week’s elections are a continuation of that truth

It was the first Friday after the election in 2016. I was meeting my friends for the usual Friday night beers. Two of us were in mourning so we drank about seven of the frothy mugs seen here; one of our group was celebrating and he had eight of these or so.

I will never forget the conversation I had with my friend throughout that long evening. One of my closest friends, we never let affinity for Trump interfere. He pretended to be against Trump, he loved him for the cut taxes. Everything about him, he said, was repulsive but the “taxes thing” made him a keeper.

When he asked me why I was so against Trump, the first thing I said was because he is a vile, racist pig and his presidency will empower the loser, white fascists. I recall the anger I felt when I said those words.

I hate racists. They are weak and vile, and their contribution to our collective DNA should be blocked. That was my opinion before Trump, during Trump and now, thanks to the Trump year, this opinion has become a personal oath.

“Come on,” he laughed. “Once he gets into office, all of that craziness will have to go away. They just won’t let him do it.”

The past holds the answers to today’s problems. “Be curious, not judgmental,” at least until you have all the facts. Think and stop watching cable news.
