Derek, have you been to Russia? You write that Russia people are "proud." I would challenge that assessment. I wouldn't say they are so much as proud as they are defensive. And while I am painting them with a broad brush, it is brush that has been constructed a reality of living in that society for 30 years. What is "unethical" about reporting on the corruption that permeates every aspect of life. I mean there is so much and it is so intense that I wouldn't even know where to begin to start. It is at every level. I was recently sharing a story with some people in Las Vegas about what I already accept as normal life and they were blown away by how horrible and corrupt it all sounded. As I wrote, the sanctions now will have an effect much later but in the short time Russians are doing okay and there is no hyperinflation. I buy daily using online shopping apps food for my inlaws and prices long ago stopped increasing and what's avaialable is pretty much the same stuff that was prior to the war. I really don't see where I am being "unethical" or as you say "contemtptuous." I am giving incite that few have. I will also say that what really has blown my mind is how so many just accepted this war without even the remotest bit of anger or shame. I see many friends and former colleagues justifying the war just so that they won't be intellectually or morally inconvenienced.
