Whether Putin was drunk as much of the world is now debating is really irrelevant. The important question is whether or not Putin’s behavior elevated him to the status of “lokh.” “Lokh” is a powerful word in Russian and the best possible translation for it is a “loser.”

Lokh, however, packs so much more than its English counterpart. So I ask if you don’t speak Russian or speak it but don’t really feel the all-consuming embrace of this word and how it brutally handicaps a person, trust me and let’s move on.

Stalin on the mend

One of the reasons Putin managed to so easily lead the Russian people to believe that he is the closest thing to divinity is because Putin made Joseph Stalin whole again in Russia’s historical lore. Almost from the beginning of his first presidency in 2000, he set out to de-criminalize Stalin’s murderous reign of terror.

Laying the foundation for his eventual dictatorship, Putin had 20 years during which he rewrote the narrative of Russia’s recent past thus permitting the reeducation of three generations of Russians.

The past holds the answers to today’s problems. “Be curious, not judgmental,” at least until you have all the facts. Think and stop watching cable news.
