Defund the F.B.I. Versus Defund the Police
Both are knee-jerk reactions but only one seeks to address a real problem
To begin with, both are stupid ideas. To be fair, one isn’t so much as stupid as just misunderstood. The other one is just out and out lunacy. Have some fun and guess which is which.
Defund the police is an idea that became popular on the Left especially among twenty and thirty-somethings after the murder of George Floyd. Hugely popular among these “kids” with very little practical experience in life, they fail to understand just why the idea is kind of crazy.
Defund the F.B.I. is a reaction by right-wing extremists, and Trumpists in particular, to the legal search and seizure carried out at ex-President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago compound.
It is not just a stupid idea but it is an idea that would greatly weaken the security of our nation and ensure that the U.S. quickly devolve into Venezuelan-style chaos.
Defunding the police
Defunding the police didn’t start with the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis. The Black Lives Matter movement actually seized upon an experiment in one of the most violent cities in the nation, Camden, New Jersey, and learned that “defunding the police” could lower crime.
