Russians all over the world breathed a sigh of relief that civil war was put off to another day
Another Russian civil war has been avoided. The incompetent and corrupt military can breathe a sigh of relief and go back to slaughtering innocent Ukrainians and its own troops.
Rostov-on-Don, the city whose name the whole world was uttering yesterday, will temporarily go back to being a nice place on the Volga River albeit one that happens to be the logistical jumping-off point for Russia’s war in Ukraine.
Summer is slowly settling in again and with it, the smell of grilled meats known as “shashlik” fill the air in the parks; the sound of the cracking and subsequent slurping of the best crayfish in Russia slips out of kitchens on quiet, sun-bathed streets made tolerable thanks to the deep pockets of cooling shade.
For another Sunday, Putin’s Russia is whole, relatively so. While many Russians were silently pulling for Prigozhin to succeed, just as many wanted the nightmare to end because no one likes to imagine what could happen if a war breaks out between pro-Putin supporters and anti-Putin supporters.
