Biden’s State of the Union Speech Should Have Embarrassed Republicans

Witty, energetic, and raring-to-go, the president showed why Republicans should not taken seriously.

It was a torrid affair. One that had me at times reaching up to wipe away the random tear, at other times punching the air with exclamations of “That’s how it’s supposed to be,” rounded out by a sense of burning disgust as I saw those Republican America haters sitting on their hands even at times when they could have — should have been — clapping (like for civil rights, Ukraine’s gallant fight, affordable prescription drugs, and slowing of gun violence).

My Russian wife commented that if you didn’t know any better, you would think all of those people were in United Russia and wishing for America’s collapse. Oh, from the mouths of babes and foreign wives not up on U.S. politics. That is precisely the takeaway from the State of the Union speech. We didn’t see a bumbling senior citizen getting lost in thought. We saw an engaged leader who ran animatedly through a litany of accomplishments that positively touched the lives of hundreds of millions more Americans and foreign citizens than anything his predecessor did.
